NIGHTMARES SUCK ASS—ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU’RE AWAKE

Sleep crashed over me, dragging me under. Everything had eaten away at my reserves—the memories of Richard, the shifting, the running, the pain of realizing I’d tied myself to a new pack. “Look at you go, little wolf.”

I blinked at the man with the dark hair, braids, and the side of his head shaved. “Tyr, right?”

He tipped his head at me. “Yes. You are fighting many fronts. And now you head for Freya?”

I frowned at him. “Bad idea?”

His smile was fleeting as he shrugged. “It will depend on her mood. When you go before her, remember that she loves a love story—the harder the better.”

He was gone before I could ask another question, my sleep settling into normal dreams of the past and the present. Of my fears catching up to me, glittering scales wrapping around my body, Kieran laughing at me as Juniper shot Havoc with a silver-loaded gun.

I jerked awake when we stopped for fuel a few hours later, sweat and fear chasing me from my dreams.

Bebe was laughing as I woke up. “What?”

“You drooled in your sleep. And talked too.”

I wanted to laugh with her, but my mind was stuck in the darkness of the dreams. Seeing Havoc slump in my dreams, blood spilling from wounds I couldn’t heal…

I didn’t want to think about why it had bothered me so much. I mean…we were on the run from Han and my family. The injuries were going to add up. Even if I could see that his wound was already healed.

“No silver poisoning for you?” I asked.

Claire answered. “Silver doesn’t bother him. And because we are tied to him, it bothers us less than if we were not.”

A gift from him to his pack. One of safety. Unlike what Han had given at least Kieran. The ability to track me.

Havoc’s arms tightened around me, and I let out a breath that pushed some of the darkness back. He was alive—and so was I. That would have to be enough for now.

I forced a smile to my lips. “As for the drooling, I mean, come on, I’m apparently part golden retriever now. What do you want?”

She rolled her eyes. “Havoc, are you going to let her go?”

“No.” he didn’t so much as budge. “Every time I loosen my hold on her, she runs.”

I tipped my head back so I could look up into his face—sort of. “I have to pee.”

He stared down at me, his eyes looking deep into mine, trying to see if I was lying, the scar across his one eye tightening.

I was not lying, my bladder was right full.

“Let’s go.”

He released my straight jacket hold and slid himself out the door first. I followed him, and he immediately took hold of my hand.

I couldn’t have this. Because he wasn’t wrong. I would run again. I had to.

“Oh, that’s sweet. You’re into PDA.” I wiggled my fingers, lacing them through his, fully expecting him to pull away.

“I don’t know what a PDA is, and this is not sweet.
